I'd like to apologize then, I wasn't trying to mislead you, I had no idea that more marksmanship = more damage. I looked it up on wiki after, and I saw something about effective damage level, but I couldn't find any further information about it.

Best learning experience is playing healer and just watching your own team and the enemy team as you can see first hand exactly what is effective and what isn't for pressure. Successful ra skills usually boils down to what will piss off the enemy monk the most. Once in a while, you'll run into an innovative build that just makes you go damn, that was a really amazing spike/constantly put me on the brink of my energy good.

Knowing how the other classes work is hugely important in playing against them well. Learn Warrior next.

To be honest i think you are VERY skilled and insightfull for such a new player, im sure most of us werent like this in the beggining. Its always fun to make your own builds, but ya need to remember that many builds are more efficient than others. Pay close attenention to the builds people use in RA

People tend to give a lot of hell to new players. I've played with quite a few new players who did pretty well for themselves. I'd play with a new player who pays attention, listens, and tries his best over 75% of the people who've been doing it for a long time.
They aren't very tolerant of test builds or builds that fall outside of the accepted norm, either.
I've seen people get declared as leechers for saying they are testing a build or carrying a different kind of bow than someone thinks they should carry.
Every build thats strong, popular, or considered 'meta' started out as a test on someone's bar and every good player has been a noob.

no1 cares.. and until Anet decides to strip the /report and dishonor systems, and find some other system to fix ragequitters, RA will rot in it's own pestilent failure.
A few suggestions from me [just so that no1 can say I ain't being productive in this]:
Nerf Blind! [lower to somewhere between 50-75% miss ratio]
Nerf Block! [let only elite skills have 75%, giving the rest no greater than a 50% ratio] and there's just not enough stance removals to deal with the web of bullshit and blockwhoring
Nerf IAS [non-elites = 10-25% and elites 20-33%] esp. Lightning Reflexes OMFG that one DEFINITELY has to go!
Buff Swordsmanship! [make artery/gash viable and remove bleeding requirement for dw to apply, but reward bonus damage for landing dw onto bleeding].
Nerf condition removals! [elites=removes all, and non-elites= capped at 2-3 conditions per cast].
Those're just shit of the top of tha dome tbh..

I tend to BE the monk. Over the years I tested them all, rc boon, zb prot. Currently I like WoH best with shield bash and balanced stance.
If the 3 others have what it takes to get people down, I'll mostly keep my team up.
Been playing GW since december 2005, I'm having about 1500 gladiator points, all from RA.

Can you share the rest of your build?

Ah, a fellow RA grinder. I have 4300 from RA, myself. I'm hoping that we'll see the RA regulars start moving up Glad rank a little quicker as soon as they remove the 10 round cap from RA. 100+ consecs will probably fairly commonplace.
|
See, this has turned out to be a curse, not a blessing. Yes, if you roll the dice and end up in a godly RA team then you are in for a lot of grinding. But that's the whole problem: these teams who are on a roll keep playing instead of moving on to TA as in the past, and the result is that most randomoid groups have no chance when they encounter them, which seems to be within the first few matches since the population size is down.
BTW here is the RA flowchart:

Haha nice chart
I don't understand how anyone can tolerate RA these days. Trying to play a martial class, especially a warrior is a case study in frustration with the prevalence of shutdown midliners that take essentially no skill at all to rape with (b-surge, EDA derv, VoR mes, curses necro). And TA was removed because of a boring / degenerate metagame?

RA metagame is pretty terrible ATM. lots of empathy, insidious parasite, backfire, VoR, etc. IDK like I think that skills that damage people for doing things that they NEED TO DO in order to function as a class is pretty retarded.
Things like kiting, attacking, and casting spells people should be able to do without being heavily punished for. Or, at least, it should be more advantageous to attack through a hex that punishes attacking than to not attack at all. That's why I guess you could say that empathy, insideous parasite are overpowered but spiteful spirit is balanced.

Play a wastrel's collapse assassin....while it's not as enjoyable as playing a warrior normally, the ability to actually get some hits in before empathy lands on you for the bazillionth goddamn time is much appreciated.

I've been using a variation of the collapse sin.
12+1+1 Dagger Mastery
9 Deadly Arts
9+1 Critical Strikes
Vampiric/Elemental Daggers
Wastrel's Collapse
Falling Spider
Iron Palm
Fox Fangs
Horns of the Ox
Falling Lotus Strike
Twisting Fangs
Res Sig (or whatever skill you think is better than a res... lol)
It's not the best thing for "spiking", but the two perfect q-knocks following the initial Collapse make for a very annoying build when you use it properly.

So many times RA players will just tunnel vision on their skill bar, health/energy, and micro those aspects, but thats the last thing u need to worry about.
|
That requires you to run a "basic template" first. Remind me what percentage of players in RA run a semi-decent bar.

Bull's Strike punishes you for kiting, Shield Bash punishes you for attacking and Power Block punishes you for casting spells. Do you think these skills should be nerfed too?

Bull's and P-Block are active use skills though; hexing is passive, fire and forget punishment. Shield bash is also something a player can control by knowing when it's recharging and / or not mashing keys too fast, whereas IP and empathy can only be controlled by interruption, which is impossible half casted and increasingly difficult without half cast because of terrible servers. Basically hexers have every advantage in RA unless you resort to equally dumb builds like suprise tele-ganks or a hammer warrior with 4 KD's to keep them grounded the whole round.
